PARKING LOT SECURITY

I want to thank you for volunteering to help watch the parking lot on Sunday mornings. If you did not know, breaking into cars at churches is very popular and very easy pickings. We are not the only church that is experiencing this problem. Churches in the north, south, east, and west of Tacoma are having the same problem.

FBC has a good relationship with the people in the east side community and we want it to stay that way. I want to communicate to all of the volunteers some simple ideas that will help. I suggest wearing a warm jacket and umbrella. [For winter months] The security watch will be divided into two shifts.

  1. Visual presence- I think that if we are visible in the parking lot most thieves will stay away. I recommend standing near the top of the stairs; it gives you a full view of the parking lot. It also allows everyone to see you.
  2. East side neighbors- the parking lot is a short cut for a lot of our neighbors. The library has a gate so they can cut across our parking lot. Be kind they're harmless.
  3. Weapons? - Cell phone only please! (911) I want to encourage you to avoid any kind of physical confrontation, or show of force. Please use your head not your muscle. I have talked with the Tacoma Police Department and they told me they would be here in 3 minutes if there is an emergency. Plus, there is a whole bunch of help inside the building.

Please note the schedule. If you have a problem with the day you are signed up for, please call someone else on the list and see if you can trade days with him. If you are a college student and will not be here because schools out etc. Let me know thanks.
